Accessibility

We want everyone to be able to read these stories and use the shop. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.

What we do

  • Story text is at least 19 px. Other text can be smaller, down to 13 px for labels, and you can enlarge it; zooming is never blocked.
  • We check the contrast of text and of the edges of buttons and choices. Colour is never the only way information is shown: links in text are underlined.
  • Every page works with a keyboard. Buttons are at least 44 px for fingers. A zoomed painting moves with the arrow keys or with buttons, as well as by dragging.
  • Paintings have text descriptions, and decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
  • The Reel narrations each have a transcript under “Read the narration”.
  • Animations respect your device’s “reduce motion” setting.
  • The Estimate has buttons as well as a slider, and the image viewer has zoom and move buttons as well as gestures.
  • The bag tells screen readers what changed, and keeps your place when you change a quantity.

What we know isn’t perfect yet

  • On your first visit, a gallery of paintings drifts slowly behind the welcome screen. It stops if your device asks for reduced motion, but it has no pause button.
  • Titles in other languages are not yet marked with their language.
  • “See it on a wall” is a picture; its size is also given in text underneath.
  • Payment happens on Stripe’s own page, which has its own accessibility work.

How we check

In October 2026 we reviewed the site against WCAG 2.2 level AA with a code review and automated checks in a real browser. We have not yet had people who use screen readers test it.
