Terms

These terms cover your use of stolenartdealer.com and, once the shop opens, anything you buy from it. By using the site you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the site.

Who we are

Stolen Art Dealer is an independent publication about the art market, based in New York. The name is a brand: we don’t buy, sell or handle stolen art, and we aren’t an auction house or an art dealer.

What we publish

  • Our stories are researched from public sources, which each lot page lists. We label what is confirmed, what is reported and what is disputed. If you think something is wrong, use “Correct the record” on the page; see our corrections policy.
  • Prices are public auction results, in US dollars at the time of sale and including the buyer’s premium unless a page says otherwise.
  • Nothing on this site is financial or investment advice. Art prices can go down as well as up, and past results don’t predict future ones.

Images and copyright

Paintings that are still in copyright are shown at reduced size for commentary, with a credit line. Rights holders can contact us through our copyright page. Our own text, design and products are ours; please don’t copy them without permission.

Accounts

You need to be at least 13 to create an account, and at least 18 (or have a parent’s permission) to buy. Keep access to your email secure, since sign-in codes go there. We may close accounts used to abuse the site or others.

Buying from the shop

  • Prices are in US dollars. Shipping and sales tax are shown before you pay.
  • Products are reproductions of public-domain paintings, made to order. They are not signed by the artist and are not originals.
  • Colours on screen can differ slightly from print.
  • Our shipping and returns policies are part of these terms.
  • Payments are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card number.

Using the site fairly

Don’t try to break, overload or scrape the site, get around its security, or use it to break the law.

Liability

We work hard to keep the site accurate and available, but we provide it as it is. As far as the law allows, we aren’t liable for indirect losses from using it. Nothing here limits rights you have that the law doesn’t let us limit.

Changes and law

We may update these terms; the date at the top shows the latest version. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York.
