Amedeo Modigliani painted Raymond in 1915. It is a small oil on canvas, 36.7 by 28.7 centimetres (14 1/2 by 11 1/4 inches), showing a young man with an intense gaze. Sotheby's and Artnet say the sitter is believed to be the writer Raymond Radiguet, who was about twelve at the time.
The recorded history begins with the dealer Paul Guillaume in Paris, who acquired the portrait directly from the artist. It then passed by descent in a private collection in France, was in a private collection in Europe by 1958, and descended again to the owner who consigned it. Sotheby's lists it in the catalogues raisonnés of Ceroni (1958), Lanthemann (1970), Parisot (1991) and Patani (1991).
Sotheby's offered the portrait in Paris on 24 October 2025, in its Modernités sale, as lot 107. The estimate was €5.5 million to €7.5 million. Sotheby's lot page lists the auction as closed on that date. Artnet News reports that it sold for €10.6 million, or $12.4 million.
