Anthony van Dyck made An Andalusian Horse around 1620, in oil on canvas. One side shows a single Andalusian stallion in profile, drawn in quick dark-brown strokes with lead-white highlights on a grey ground. The canvas measures 132 by 106 cm, including a horizontal extension of 7 cm along the upper edge.

The reverse holds a separate oil sketch of a wooded bank sloping down to a lake, where a dog drinks. Christie's catalogues the horse as the recto and the landscape as the verso. Its lot essay says the work was painted shortly before van Dyck left Antwerp for Italy in autumn 1621.

The canvas was with R. P. Nicholls, London, before 1859, when Thomas Gambier Parry of Highnam Court, Gloucester, acquired it. It then passed by descent until an anonymous sale at Christie's, London, on 13 December 2000, where the most recent owner bought it.

Christie's offered it in London on 3 December 2024 as lot 7 of the Old Masters Part I sale, with an estimate of £2,000,000 to £3,000,000. It sold for £3,428,000, which is $4,350,132 including the buyer's premium.
