Giovanni di Paolo, a Sienese painter, made The Investiture of Saint Clare in tempera and gold on panel. The panel measures 20.6 by 29.2 cm. It shows the young Saint Clare receiving the habit of her Order from Saint Francis. The Art Newspaper dates it, together with a companion panel, to around 1455 to 1460.

Christie's provenance lists Richard von Kaufmann of Berlin as an owner by 1917, and the panel appeared in his sale in Berlin on 4 December 1917. It later belonged to Harry Fuld, who died in 1932, and passed by inheritance to his widow, Lucie Mayer-Fuld, and his two sons.

The provenance then records the List of nationally valuable art works of 1938 and a sale through art dealers to the Kaiser Friedrich Museum, Berlin, in 1940. The Art Newspaper reports that the Fuld panels were seized by the Nazis and later restituted to the Fuld family. Christie's records that the Gemäldegalerie in Berlin returned the panel in 2019.

Christie's offered it in London on 3 December 2019 as lot 9, described as Property From the Harry Fuld Collection, with an estimate of £600,000 to £800,000. It sold for £3,611,250, including the buyer's premium. At the exchange rate of that day this is about $4.69 million.
