L'Enfant et ses jouets - Gabrielle et Jean, le fils de l'artiste shows a young boy playing with toy figures in the lap of his nursemaid. Renoir painted it in oil on canvas, about 54 by 65 centimetres, and the auction house dates it to before 1910. Related versions are in the National Gallery of Art in Washington and the Musée de l'Orangerie; the house says the figurines and the background are more defined in this one.
The painting stayed at Louveciennes. It was kept in Renoir's studio there, on the property of Jeanne Baudot, who died in 1957. It then passed by inheritance to Jean Griot at Louveciennes, and from him to a private collection in Paris.
Joron-Derem sold it at the Hôtel Drouot in Paris on 25 November 2025, as lot 164 of its Tableaux Modernes sale, against an estimate of €1,000,000 to €1,500,000. The house's result page gives €1,832,800 with fees. Artnet News reports a hammer price of €1.45 million and describes the total as over €1.8 million, or $2 million; the dollar figure is Artnet's rounding.
